Ramky Enviro Engineers Ltd. (REEL) and GE Sign Agreements for Emergency Water and Industrial Wastewater Treatment in India
|
| |
Ramky Enviro Engineers Limited (REEL) of
Hyderabad and GE Power & Water (NYSE:GE) have signed agreements to enhance the role that
both companies will play in meeting India's growing industrial wastewater treatment and
recycling needs. Ramky Enviro Engineers is India's leading organization in environmental and
waste management, while GE is a leading global supplier of water and wastewater treatment
technology and solutions.
Under the agreement, GE's industry-leading ultra filtration (UF) and membrane bioreactor (MBR)
technology will be utilized by REEL for wastewater treatment and recycling in India's industrial
sector. It is estimated that the need for advanced wastewater treatment in this sector will increase
by approximately 18% each year.* this demand is driven by new regulations combined with
greater efforts from the industry to meet environmental responsibilities. Shortage for process
water in most parts of the country also is driving the need for recycling of wastewater.
REEL and GE also will bring the innovative concept of mobile water treatment plants to the
Indian water sector. Set up in containers and mounted on trucks, these plants can be moved
quickly to destinations having emergency water requirements. The mobile plants also can help
meet water requirements during periods of project implementation and construction as well as
during the summer season when water shortage is endemic in India. "We are committed to meeting the needs of the Indian wastewater sector. This agreement with
GE, a world-class technology provider, combines our strengths and capabilities in EPC and
wastewater management with GE's latest technological solutions. This will enable us provide our
customers with reliable, state-of-the-at and cost-effective water reuse systems. With the country
and the industry facing major challenges in the availability of water, this announcement by
Ramky Enviro on the eve of the World Environment Day reflects its commitment and
contribution to the national environmental cause" said Mr. Raman Nanda, Managing director and
CEO of Ramky Enviro.
GE and REEL have started working with industry segments such as pharmaceuticals, textiles,
automotive, heavy metals and tanneries. They are implementing projects in effluent treatment
based on MBR and UF technologies at several sites including Pharma CETP, Pattancheru
(Hyderabad), NTC, and Volkswagen India Ltd., Pune. "The agreement emphasizes pilot studies
prior to the implementation of projects, which leads to developing the right solutions the first
time," noted Mr. Nanda.
"We are excited about the new relationship between two strong companies that bring
complementary technologies, operational experience, solid industry reputations and best-in-class
service to customers in India," said Yuvbir Singh, general manager, ultrafiltration and membrane
bioreactor product lines for GE's water & process technologies business. "We are confident that
our proven products, application expertise and technologies are an excellent fit for industrial
effluent treatment and reuse requirements of Indian industry."
The new agreement with REEL further expands GE's water sector presence in India, where GE
has set up its water's application & design engineering team at Bangalore. This GE India
engineering team will support training for REEL's application engineering and service teams as
well as customers' operational teams. GE's manufacturing facilities at Hoskote near Bangalore are
in the process of integrating the local production of many of the required products, which will
also reduce the need for imports.

What is Energy Audit
Energy today has become a key factor in deciding the product cost at micro level as well as in dictating the inflation and the debt burden at the macro level. Energy cost is a significant factor in economic activity. On per with factors of production like capital, land and labor. The imperatives of an energy shortage situation calls for energy conservation measure, which essentially mean using less energy for the same level of activity. Energy Audit attempts to balance the total energy inputs with its use and serves to identify all the energy streams in the systems and quantifies energy usage's according to its discrete function. Energy Audit helps in energy cost optimization, pollution control, safety aspects and suggests the methods to improve the operating & maintenance practices of the system. It is instrumental in coping with the situation of variation in energy cost availability, reliability of energy supply, decision on appropriate energy mix, decision on using improved energy conservation equipment's. instrumentation's and technology.
Objectives of Energy Audit
The Energy Audit provides the vital information base for overall energy conservation program covering essentially energy utilization analysis and evaluation of energy conservation measures.
It aims at:
- Identifying the quality and cost of various energy inputs.
- Assessing present pattern of energy consumption in different cost centers of operations.
- Relating energy inputs and production output.
- Identifying potential areas of thermal and electrical energy economy.
- Highlighting wastage's in major areas.
- Fixing of energy saving potential targets for individual cost centers.
